Season in review: The good, the bad and the Turtle

FCFC ended its 2024-2025 season in a respectable second place in Division 1 with a total of 28 points coming from 9 wins, 1 draw and 4 losses. City netted 47 goals this season and conceded 34. City’s departing manager Turtle contributed 19 goals, while Lu Xinzhi mustered 10 assists. In the end, it was not enough to topple Afrika Utd from the first spot. But with the departure of its manager, Turtle, City must look onward to a new season under the tutelage of the ever capable George Sherwood. Can he put together a successful squad? Can he find a player to fill Turtle’s golden boots? These are questions only the new season can answer!

Summer Palace finished toward the bottom of the table, but after a disappointing first half of the season, Palace showed tangible improvement after the winter break. They finished with 14 points, scoring 21 goals, conceding 26 in return. Palace looks to build on its second half of season improvements and find a winning formula for the upcoming season.

    CITY AND PALACE’S BEST

Through thick and thin, rough and tumble, blood, sweat and tears who are best of City and Palace for the 2024-2025 season?

City Man of the Season: Remy

    FC_MOTS

The warrior of the back-line, Remy made himself an invaluable part of City’s defense and offense every game.

    City Top Scorer: Turtle

    FC_TGS

Though we like to joke about Turtle’s expected goals and tap-ins for the season, he made a name for himself, scoring second most goals in the league!

Palace Man of the Season: Leon

    SP_MOTS

One of Palace’s newest additions, Leon has made a name for himself on and off the pitch, both for Palace and City. Fashion second to none.

    Palace Top Scorer: Anotida

    SP_TGS

Although betraying the team to join Squirtle FC this season, Anotida worked hard this past season on listening to his peers and made solid steps toward becoming one of Palace’s most solid attackers.

    FCFC October Break Season Update

We made sure that this season started with the traditional FCFC bang as we welcomed new members during our Season Opening Party @ longstanding FCFC watering hole Lugas in Sanlitun. Throughout the night, we discovered that Fran wasn’t lying when he said he can’t drink, acknowledged FCFC’s biggest dick and watched some great videos from FCFC stars of the past (Ivan). New guys such as Christoph and Pedro stepped up to remind us that despite the demolitions currently taking place in Sanlitun, FCFC can still bring the party…

So far this year has seen some quality football in the IFFC Premier League from Forbidden City. Four games, four wins, with 16 goals scored. Despite initial fitness issues causing problems for City in the second half of some games, we are now top by two points – long may it continue!

Ollie is currently leading the scoring charts for the club with six goals, whilst newbie Pedro and old timer Mehmet have three and two goals respectively. With tough matches against French L’Equipe in the Cup and Beijing Celtic in the league coming up, if you are not playing come and support City and cheer the lads on as they continue their quest for what could be a memorable league and cup double if the football Gods continue to favour us!

Despite a tough start to the 2017/18 season for Summer Palace in the IFFC First Division, the team has been gaining momentum with each game, culminating in a 5-0 thrashing of Chaoyang Park Rangers and some quite exquisite football against Too Sexy in the final match before the October break. Despite not managing to get over the line and win that game, further performances like that should see Palace make a strong push towards the league’s summit once a long string of pre-Christmas games resume on October 21st against Celtic Beijing. With the league wide open, it is all to play for for the mighty Palace!

On a less positive note, we have already said goodbye to FCFC lothario, Denis, who was top-scorer for Palace this season so far (both on and off the pitch) before deciding to make the switch to Shanghai, ensuring the FCFC tradition of meiyou mingtian continues to spread…
